Career Achievements

Craig Hoppen, a native of Hudsonville, Michigan, graduated from Hudsonville High School in 1982, and his remarkable journey has left an indelible mark on his alma mater and the broader world.

Craig's journey to success began on a small dairy farm, where he was deeply involved in 4H, tending to pigs and steers. These early experiences instilled in him a strong work ethic, a deep sense of community values, integrity, and unwavering determination.

Following high school, Craig ventured into the workforce, spending two years in the tool and die industry. At the age of 21, he married his high school sweetheart, Sherry Hop.

The pinnacle of Craig's career has been his role as President and CEO of the J&H Oil Company and J&H Family Stores. Over 39 years, he diligently worked to acquire the family business, originally founded in 1969 by his father-in-law, Jerry Hop, with just one $600 tank truck. Under Craig's leadership, J&H Oil Company expanded to include over fifty retail and convenience locations throughout West Michigan, employing over 1,200 people.

Craig's contributions extend nationally, with roles on the National Council for Marathon Oil and the Exxon Mobil National Council. On a local level, he has served as President of the West Michigan Oil and Gas Association and Chair of the Michigan Petroleum Association, advocating for industry interests and the broader community.

Beyond his business achievements, Craig is deeply committed to various leadership roles and philanthropic endeavors. He has actively contributed to the trucking collective board, fostering connections between truckers, companies, and local churches to promote faith and community values.

His dedication to faith is evident through his efforts to provide on-campus churches at J&H Family Stores locations, ensuring that truckers can attend church services even amidst demanding work schedules.

Craig and Sherry Hoppen are currently working on establishing the "Selah House Recovery," a faith-based recovery center for women grappling with addiction in the Jamestown area. This project underscores their ongoing commitment to serving the community and positively impacting others' lives.

At the core of Craig's success is his unwavering devotion to family. As a father of three children and a grandfather to three grandchildren, he places family values at the center of his life. Two of his children and one son-in-law work alongside him at J & H Family Stores, ensuring the continuity of his legacy within the family and the broader community.
